Brenda Ulrich joined the Law Office of Zick Rubin in 2008, and focuses her practice on advising clients about intellectual property matters, including protection of copyrights and trademarks, development of intellectual property guidelines and policies for businesses and educational and cultural organizations, drafting and negotiating licenses and development agreements for literary and artistic works, software, and online ventures, and resolving intellectual property disputes. Before joining our office, Brenda was the Assistant Director of the Arts and Business Council of Greater Boston, where she provided legal assistance to artists and arts organizations, including visual artists, musicians, authors, dancers, and filmmakers.
As an associate in the litigation department of Edwards, Angell, Palmer & Dodge from 2001-2004, Brenda represented clients in a wide variety of federal and state cases, including copyright and trademark disputes. In 2003, Brenda was lead counsel in a lawsuit against the defunct Boston Corporate Art, successfully representing hundreds of visual artists to recover thousands of works of art in danger of being liquidated at auction or thrown away.
Brenda received her B.A. from the University of Chicago in 1996 and her J.D. magna cum laude from the Georgetown University Law Center in 2001. While in law school, Brenda worked in the Office of the General Counsel at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
Brenda is an Articles Editor for the Journal of Arts Management, Law & Society as well as a former co-chair of the Boston Bar Association's Arts, Entertainment, & Sports Law Committee. Brenda has spoken to numerous arts and legal groups on intellectual property and arts-related legal issues, including the Boston Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, New England Museum Association, New England Conservatory, Grub Street, Inc., the Copley Society of Art, and the ALI-ABA “Legal Issues in Museum Administration” Annual Conference.
Brenda's husband Tom is a science writer for Children's Hospital Boston. In her spare time, Brenda sings with the Back Bay Chorale.
